Cast iron skillet

Growing up, my brother and I had alternating nights of dish washing duty. Much despised and dreaded, I remember feeling the sole purpose of my mother giving birth to us was so we could clean up after some lame-ass meal. Mom would often use the cast-iron skillet (a favorite for the ramen noodle omelet)and it was the absolute WORST thing to clean. We would end up soaking it for hours and using and SOS pad to scrub it.

As I have said before, cooking was not something I was taught as a child. So even some obvious things I just had to figure out on my own. A few years ago, I rediscovered the cast iron skillet. Beautiful, old, black and SEASONED. Yes, SEASONED. Apparently, that was the key Mom never tried. It is not that much effort to wipe it down with olive oil after every use. It cleans up beautifully and browns like a dream.
